Sept 16, 2021 – NLAAN Announces Extension for Applying to Serve on Leadership Committee

Many of our members have asked us for additional time to apply to serve on the Leadership Committee of the National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) and we are extending the application process until September 30th 2011, 5pm EST.

NLAAN seeks motivated individuals wanting to positively impact the health and well being of Latino communities across the United Stated and its territories by serving on the NLAAN Leadership Committee. The Leadership Committee is the governing body of and is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of NLAAN programmatic and advocacy efforts.

The Leadership Committee is composed of representatives of organizations and independent individuals working together to help mobilize, educate and advocate at the national, state and local levels in collaboration with Latino serving organizations to prevent HIV infection, increase access to care and treatment and inform research efforts that address the needs of diverse Latino communities.

Interested applicants must be active members of NLAAN with at least three months of active participation, defined as having been involved in Leadership Committee or Work Groups or having participated in any of the 2011 Webinars or NLAAN events.

Election results will be made available on October 14th in accordance with the NLAAN By-laws.

This webinar will serve as an opportunity to higlight recent and upcoming activites as well as provide information about how to get involved in our workgroups.

September 7, 2020 – NLAAN is conducting an assessment of how health care reform, the economy, immigration issues and the implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy will or are currently affecting your community.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and will provide NLAAN with a quick snap shot of what is happening within Latino communities across our country and will allow our network to continue to advocate for needed change and expansion of services to ensure that Latinos have access to the health care and the education needed to make healthy choices.

February 16, 2020 – $126 Million Needed in Emergency Funding for AIDS Drug Assistance Programs

Washington DC – The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) calls on President Obama and Congress to provide an additional $126 million in FY2010 emergency funding to meet current AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) needs. This amount is in addition to the $20 million increase allocated for ADAPs included in President Obama's recently released FY2011 proposed budget.

We are confident that these distinguished individuals will effectively represent the needs of all communities affected by HIV and AIDS. NLAAN applauds President Obama for selecting leaders who not only represent communities but individuals who have worked tirelessly on behalf of a diverse community, including Latinos/Hispanics living with HIV/AIDS in the United States and its territories.

January 28, 2020 – Spending Freeze, Latino's and HIV/AIDS

Washington DC – As representatives and advocates of Latino/Hispanic Communities impacted by HIV/AIDS in America we felt compelled to respond to concerning issues raised by President Barack Obama in his first State of the Union address. The President outlined key areas of concern but also reminded us of the commitment as Americans to work together to resolve the many problems that our communities face. The President outlined his willingness to work with the congress to take measures to bring down our deficit and create more jobs. But, we know that it will take time to witness the fruits of that labor.

December 22, 2019 – Statement on behalf of the National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) Regarding the Passing of Dennis de Leon

It is with utmost sadness that the National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) mourns the death of Dennis de Leon founder and former President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. From HIV/AIDS, to housing, water born disease, and health services, Dennis continuously and steadfastly sought justice and care for those less fortunate than himself. When he became aware of his infection, at a time when disclosure of one's status often meant negative personal and professional impacts, Dennis once again chose truth and justice and sought to utilize his personal struggle to help others..

August 11, 2019 – The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) Announces New Leadership

New York, NY – The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) today elected its new Leadership. Members of the Leadership Committee will serve two year terms and make decisions and recommendations about national, regional and local HIV/AIDS issues of concern to the Latino community as well as advocate at local and national levels for the Latino community's increased access to HIV testing and care.

July 20, 2019 – NLAAN recognizes support of Dr. Garth Graham, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health and the Office of Minority Health.

NLAAN recognizes and thanks, the Office of Minority Health (OMH) and the Office of Minority Health Resource Center (OMHRC) for ongoing support. NLAAN, a consortium of more than 300 organizations from across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, is working closely with Federal partners to address the impact of HIV/AIDS within the Latino community, and while it may be a relatively new player in the world of HIV policy and decision making, network efforts are being felt at the national level and across the country. This is no small part thanks to the support of OMH, its staff and the staff of OMHRC.


June 29, 2019 -HITN’s Destination Casa Blanca showcases four NLAAN members to discuss HIV/AIDS: Treatment, Prevention and Awareness for Latinos.

Destination Casa Blanca is public affairs round table where leading public policy experts participate in dialogue and debate on matters specific to the Latino community such as immigration, the economy, health care, and education, as well as social and cultural affairs and is hosted by Ray Suarez. Mr. Suarez is an award-winning broadcast journalist and celebrated author, with over thirty years of news experience. In addition to being host of this ground breaking program, he is currently Senior Correspondent for The NewsHour on PBS.
 
Members of NLAAN invited to speak about Latino HIV/AIDS issues were Dr. Jorge Delgado, Assistant Director of Government Relations and Public Policy (NMAC – Washington, DC), Ms. Catalina Sol, Director HIV/AIDS Department (La Clinica Del Pueblo – Washington, DC), Mr. Francisco Ruiz, Manager of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities (NASTAD – Washington, DC) and Mr. Oscar Raúl López, Director of Health Policy (Latino Commission on AIDS – New York, NY).


June 29, 2019 - President Obama Releases Statement, Video Urging U.S. Residents to Get Tested For HIV.

Monday, June 29, 2009 - President Obama on Saturday released a statement marking National HIV Testing Day urging U.S. residents to get tested for HIV and work toward reducing the spread of the virus. Obama said in the statement, "Each of us must take responsibility for reducing our risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV and for supporting affected individuals and communities. This means getting tested for HIV and working to end the stigma and discrimination people living with HIV face." The White House also released a video message with Obama's statement.


May 29, 2019 - The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) Applauds the supreme court nomination of judge Sonia Sotomayor.

The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) applauds President Obama's Nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court and calls for swift confirmation of the nation's first Latino Supreme Court Justice.

November 13, 2018 - HHS/CDC Responds to the Latino HIV/AIDS Federal Policy Recommendations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) examined NLAAN's Federal Policy Recommendations and responded to those that specifically address CDC's involvement in preventing HIV/AIDS among Hispanic/Latinos in the United States.


November 5, 2018 - The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) congratulates President-Elect Barack Obama on his historic victory and pledges our support.

As a consortium of more than 300 organizations from across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands working to address the impact of HIV/AIDS within the Latino community, we are proud of the role that emerging voters, particularly Latinos, have played in this election.  We clearly recognize that political and health advocacy go hand in hand and that a population with hope is one that will work to prevent HIV/AIDS.

October 15, 2018 - The National Latino AIDS Action Network (NLAAN) releases letters to both Senator Obama and Senator McCain outlining the HIV/AIDS crisis within the Latino community.

NLAAN also shares with both candidates the Latino HIV/AIDS Federal Policy Recommendations: Addressing the Latino AIDS Crisis developed in June 2008 as a result of the National Latino AIDS Leadership Summit. NLAAN asks both candidates to endorse the Federal Policy Recommendations.

June 24, 2018 - The National Latino AIDS Action Network releases Latino HIV/AIDS Policy Federal Recommendations developed as a result of the National AIDS Summit that took place January 2008 in Washington D.C.
Steering Committee members develop Federal Recommendations and organizing press events in Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, Miami, San Antonio, Philadelphia and Chicago.
 
Historic National Latino/Hispanic AIDS Summit conclude in unity, commitment and embracing a National AIDS Action Agenda in response to the AIDS emergency among Hispanics nationwide
Washington, DC, Thursday, January 31, 2008 - The summit participants adopted a national AIDS action agenda, with an action plan developed by a national network that agrees to meet again in the year 2010. The Latino/Hispanic AIDS Action Network is coordinated by a national steering committee that will follow up and move forward with an action plan to revert this public health crisis.
